New year, new LinkedIn perks!

2023 looks bountifully promising for LinkedIn, ushering in a compendium of updates that will further cement the platform’s strive for excellence and dominion.

The company offered us exciting sneak-peeks into its features getting cooked up behind the scenes.

We start with the biggest leap towards heightened inclusivity and improved accessibility: Auto captions and alt-text! Brands are rushing to answer the ethical D&I imperatives of the marketplace in their production cycles. Accessibility has always been a key tenet of an inclusive UX and holistic SEO that can offer equitable access and a user-friendly journey for the widest range of people; in turn unlocking overlooked revenue streams.

Back to the updates – When uploading your videos, LinkedIn will automatically generate captions that can be edited prior to publishing, whether you want to enable high contrast, choose colors or simply tweak a typo in the transcribed script. However, the first stages will be limited to English support only. Don’t forget using an intelligible language that’s easy for the algorithms to understand.

Alt text, or alternative text, will also be introduced in Campaign Manager, allowing you to layer ‘single image ads’ with text descriptions for the visually-and-audibly-impaired users, while boosting your SEO and SERP visibility.

Next up are standardized job titles for workers in the accessibility industry (for example “Accessibility Engineer”), which they can utilize in their profile’s experience and “Open to Work” feature to easily get discovered or find better career opportunities.

LinkedIn optimizing your job searches stretches even more. Personalized job collections are also getting tested, and these will help you skip the search box hunt by categorizing job listings for you based on location, company name, role flexibility and more variables that align with your preferences.

LinkedIn is also working on improving the discoverability of its 2020-launched B2B product listing pages by rolling new additions to its product categories. So sifting through almost 90,000 products will be getting even smoother, whether you want to type-search a category or simply pick one from the updated “Product category” drop-down.

We wrap it all up with the long-awaited, creators-favorite “Schedule” feature to automate your calendars and maintain a consistent presence.
