The velvet rope on Instagram’s creator toolkit is gone
Instagram has announced it’s rolling out several of its most-used creator tools to all public accounts, with no Professional Mode required. That means content scheduling, the insights dashboard, and access to trending audio are now on the table for anyone with a public profile.
These are the building blocks of intentional content creation, which Instagram has been offering to Professional Mode users for a while. Extending them to all public accounts means that someone at the beginning of their creator journey can now experiment with real tools rather than flying completely blind.
This isn’t purely altruistic, and it doesn’t need to be. Giving new and smaller creators access to insights and scheduling serves Instagram’s interests just as much as theirs. Creators who can see what’s working are more likely to keep creating, scheduling content, and posting more consistently. And we all know the algorithm rewards consistency. So, even if not everyone wins, at least Instagram will have more people stay in the game long enough to find out whether they can.
There’s also a competitive dimension here, as TikTok and YouTube have made significant moves to court smaller and mid-tier creators in recent years. Therefore, Instagram handing out tools that used to require a mode switch is partly about retention; making sure that creators at the early, exploratory stage don’t drift elsewhere before they’ve had a real chance to grow on Instagram.
Similar to the feature mentioned in the previous blog, this update will surely remove some of the structural disadvantages that smaller or newer creators have faced, but cannot guarantee better outcomes.
