Instagram is renaming its “AI creator” labels to “AI generated profile” and adding more information to make it clearer when users are interacting with an AI-generated character. It will also limit the reach of profiles featuring AI-generated people if they do not use the label.
The change comes as platforms face growing concerns around profiles that look and behave like real people but are actually AI-generated. On a platform built around people sharing their lives, knowing who, or what, is behind an account matters.
The bigger point here is trust. Instagram may be embracing AI across different areas, but it clearly does not want users wondering whether the person they are following actually exists.
A little more honesty in the bio probably isn't such a bad thing.
