Why Instagram Stories are meant to stay intimate

Why Instagram Stories are meant to stay intimate

In his latest of the "Here's How Instagram Actually Works" series, Adam Mosseri revealed something that might shock content creators: Stories aren't meant to make you famous. We know, clutch your pearls.

Think of Instagram Stories this way: they're meant for your inner circle, not the whole neighborhood. Compared to your main feed posts, Stories are more intimate, immediate, and ideally, should prompt a reaction beyond the passive scroll-and-forget.

The secret sauce? Instagram's algorithm is basically playing matchmaker, looking for three main signs of a potential love connection: Will someone tap on your Story? Might they drop a Like? Could they slide into your DMs? (the holy grail of engagement).

While the main feed has become a discovery-driven AI playground, Stories remain a sanctuary for genuine connection. Besides, in a world where algorithms increasingly push us toward viral content and endless discovery, there's something refreshingly human about a feature that still prioritizes real connections over reach.

And isn't that what social media was supposed to be about in the first place?
