While LinkedIn is asking “how much AI is too much?” and Threads is adding more of it, X is taking the platform expansion route, moving from conversations into finance.
X has launched X Money, introducing peer-to-peer payments and an X-branded Visa debit card as part of its ambition to become an “everything app.” Built through financial infrastructure provided by Cross River Bank, the service brings financial tools directly into the platform.
Users can send money in real time, use the X Money card, and access incentives such as cashback and deposit yields.
The launch brings X closer to Elon Musk’s long-standing vision of combining communication, commerce, and finance in one place. Similar models already exist in other markets, but the bigger test for X is whether users will trust a platform known for conversations and content with something much more personal: their money.
For brands, the shift shows how platforms are competing for more than attention. The next battle may be about becoming the place where users don’t just discover things, but actually do things. The next battle may be about becoming the place where users not only discover what matters, but act on it.
