X is opening up more of the algorithm behind its For You feed. Now, it is giving users a way to see how its ranking systems have affected their content.
The platform has published more of the code behind its recommendation system, including parts of the ranking and filtering processes used to determine what appears in users’ feeds.
X is also testing a new transparency tool that will allow eligible users to download information showing whether labels or ranking systems have affected their posts or accounts over the previous month.
The code will probably be more useful to developers than the average user, but the transparency tool could give creators a better idea of what is happening to their content.
After years of algorithms doing their work quietly in the background, X is now giving users a clearer look at what happens before a post reaches the feed.
