Aprils’ Fool Week at Twitter
Sudden changes have been sweeping Twitterland lately. Here are the top-confusing moments from last week:
Moment 1: Desktop users woke up on April 3rd to find Dogecoin’s iconic mascot in the place of the classic bluebird homepage logo.
Update – No joke, Doge the Shiba Inu is Twitter’s official face now.
Possible explanation – Elon Musk is trolling the lawsuit filed against him for allegedly promoting Dogecoin.
Moment 2: Musk postponed his purge of legacy checkmarks, while exempting the platform’s 10,000 most-followed organizations.
The confusion comes from Twitter removing all information that differentiates between legacy and Blue ticks. Instead, the hover-over note now reads: “This account is verified because it’s subscribed to Twitter Blue or is a legacy verified account.”
Possible explanation – Elon Musk wants to mask low Blue adoption stats.
Moment 3: A bug has been slipping random, verified strangers into many users’ “Following” timelines, filling them with unidentifiable tweets.
“Retweeted by” was missing for days in timeline viewing mode, on both iOS and Android. But you could still see the marker if you’d press on the tweet.
Update – “Retweet” labels are slowly coming back!
These are but natural moments in Twitter Town Square. What might the upcoming weeks have in store for us?
