Instagram’s lockable posts: The password, please

Instagram is testing a new feature called “lockable posts,” which can only be viewed when users enter a secret code.
Spotted on Instagram’s own Design profile, these “lockable posts” appear as blurred content with an intriguing “Enter secret code” prompt. The feature works across both mobile and desktop, teasing followers with content they can see but can’t access without the proper credentials.
The possibilities here are genuinely exciting: brands could offer exclusive discounts to previous customers; content creators could share bonus content with superfans; businesses could provide region-specific updates without cluttering everyone’s feed, and so on..
This feels like a natural evolution from the “Reveal” sticker Instagram added to Stories last year, which blurred content until a viewer sent a DM, cleverly boosting engagement.
The key difference now is that the secret code would likely be distributed outside of Instagram—through emails, newsletters, text messages, or even in-person interactions, creating a bridge between online and offline engagement.
For now, the feature appears to be in limited testing, and Instagram hasn’t confirmed when (or if) it will roll out to all users.
