Meta’s latest algorithm update copies the competition

If you feel like Facebook’s video algorithm has a mind of its own, you’re not alone. Meta announced a major update to Reels, and this time they’re putting more power in your hands.

The Problem: Algorithm Overload
You’re scrolling through Facebook Reels when suddenly your feed is filled with low-quality AI-generated videos, scammy content, and bizarre recommendations. Meta heard the complaints loud and clear, and they’re rolling out features that might make your feed feel less like a slot machine and more like something you actually want to watch.

What’s New: Four Key Updates

1. The “Not Interested” Button Gets an Upgrade
You can now directly tell Facebook what you don’t want to see. Tap “Not Interested” on a Reel or flag a comment that doesn’t fit, and the algorithm will actually listen. Each interaction fine-tunes your recommendations, making your experience more personalized over time.

2. TikTok-Style Topic Search
Facebook is adding AI-powered search suggestions at the bottom of Reels. It’s the same gray bar you’ll find on TikTok videos, making it easier to explore topics you’re interested in.

3. Fresher Content, Faster
One of the most exciting updates is Facebook’s commitment to showing you newer content. Surfacing 50% more Reels that were uploaded the same day you’re scrolling.

While Facebook frames these changes as helping users stay “connected” through friend recommendations, the truth is simple: video content is where the growth is happening.
