Your Instagram comment typos might be soon fixable

There is a particular kind of low-grade misery that Instagram users have accepted as part of life on the platform. Not the algorithmic chaos, not the Reels autoplay, but something smaller and more personal than all of that.

You type a comment, hit post, and then notice the typo.

On Instagram, until now, your options were exactly two: live with the mistake, or delete the whole comment and start over, except you can’t copy your own comment text. For something as fleeting as a social media comment, it’s quite a punishing little system.

Now, Instagram appears to be quietly testing a fix. A growing number of users who have long been mildly inconvenienced, spotted first across Reddit, X, and Threads, reporting an “Edit” option appearing below their comments, alongside the existing Reply and Share buttons. Edited comments display an “Edited” label afterward, keeping things transparent. The feature is in limited testing and the rollout appears characteristically patchy in the way Meta tests things before launching them widely.

It is worth noting comment editing exists on YouTube and X. It has existed in various forms across the internet  long enough that its absence on a platform of Instagram’s scale was always a little strange. The fact that a typo correction required full deletion was, by any reasonable standard, a gap.

The edit button shouldn’t be news. But here we are, genuinely hoping it sticks around.
