Coming soon: YouTube’s Veo 2

YouTube Shorts just leveled up. With the introduction of Veo 2, Google DeepMind’s latest video wizardry, creators can now conjure up entire video clips with just a few words.
Gone are the days of tweaking just your backgrounds. While Dream Screen gave us AI-generated backdrops, Veo 2 takes things to a whole different level. Think dreamy slow-motion butterflies in a sunlit forest or a gritty urban timelapse with a specific cinematic flair. Just type it out, and Veo 2 brings it to life.
What makes this upgrade exciting? Real-world physics and human movement. According to YouTube’s Product Director, Dina Berrada, you can now fine-tune styles, lenses, and cinematic effects—making creativity as effortless as sending a text.
Starting Thursday, creators in the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand can explore this AI-powered playground. Simply open the Shorts camera, tap Green Screen, find Dream Screen, and let your imagination run wild. Of course, with great power comes great responsibility. Each Veo 2 creation will carry DeepMind’s SynthID watermark, ensuring transparency about its AI origins.
In the ongoing AI arms race (looking at you, OpenAI’s Sora), Veo 2 is YouTube’s bold statement: the future of video creation is already here.
