Inside Instagram’s new “Edits” app

Instagram is preparing to launch its standalone video editing app aptly named “Edits.”

What’s in the Editing Room?
Instagram recently pulled back the curtain on its upcoming video editing powerhouse, and it looks like they’re not just dipping their toes into the video editing waters—they’re doing a full cannonball.

The app will feature a “Projects” tab, allowing users to juggle multiple videos simultaneously—eliminating the hassle of finishing one video before starting another or losing your brilliant half-finished masterpiece in the abyss of your camera roll. One of its standout tools, “Cutouts,” enables users to isolate specific elements within any clip. Videos edited with the app will also sport a “Made with Edits” tag when shared on Instagram.

The AI Revolution Continues
Building on previously announced capabilities, “Edits” will introduce features like AI-generated background editing (because who needs actual scenic locations anymore right?), still image animation (bringing your static photos to life), and collaborative tools for creators.

Instagram chief Adam Mosseri recently confirmed that new features will be tested in “Edits” first before making their way to Instagram and Threads, positioning the app as Meta’s experimental hub for innovation.

Mark your calendars—”Edits” hits app stores next week, with pre-orders now available on Instagram for those eager to be among the first to try it.
