Instagram finally fixes the “where’s part 2?” problem

Instagram just rolled out a feature that lets creators link multiple Reels together in a series. TikTok users are probably rolling their eyes right now because they’ve had this forever. But hey, better late than never, right?

We’ve all been there. You’re invested in a story, the creator promises a follow-up, and then… nothing. You’re left refreshing their profile like a maniac, wondering if part 2 exists or if you’ve been emotionally abandoned by someone you don’t even know.

This new feature solves that frustration. Creators can now connect related Reels with a simple button press, either when posting or retroactively through the overflow menu. Viewers get a handy “Next” button at the bottom left of each Reel; no more detective work required.

Linked series keep viewers on the platform longer, turning casual scrollers into binge-watchers. Instagram’s aware of this psychology of binge, betting that organized content will boost watch time and convert drive-by viewers into actual followers. When viewers know there’s a “Next” button waiting, they’re more likely to stick around.

In summary, this feature could be huge for creators trying to build sustainable audiences. Instead of hoping individual reels go viral, they can create content ecosystems that keep viewers engaged across multiple posts.
