Instagram saving your Highlights FOMO

In a world where social media feeds move faster than your morning coffee can cool, Instagram is testing a clever solution to help you catch up on your friends’ meaningful moments.

Meta’s latest experiment places unseen Story Highlights from mutual followers directly to the end of your Stories tray. Think of it as a digital time capsule, giving you a week-long chance to revisit significant moments you might have missed while scrolling through endlessly.

The feature will ideally kick in only after you’ve reached the end of your current Stories queue. It specifically focuses on Story Highlights (those curated, permanent collections) rather than ephemeral 24-hour Stories.

However, there’s a catch: (There’s always one, isn’t there?) To access these archived Highlights, you’ll need to be a Stories power user who actually makes it to the end of their tray. For those following hundreds of accounts, these missed moments might remain just that–missed.

In summary, this move reveals Instagram’s acknowledgment of a growing problem: authentic connections getting lost in the algorithmic shuffle.

With feeds increasingly dominated by sponsored content and Reels, finding ways to surface genuine content posted by your friends and family has become crucial for maintaining the platform’s social fabric.
