Meta AI prepares for paid tiers

Just days after launching Meta AI as a standalone app, Zuckerberg is already eyeing monetization. He’s teased plans for a “premium service” that would offer power users access to enhanced computing capabilities and exclusive features—essentially following the playbook that OpenAI, Google, and Microsoft have already established with their subscription-based AI offerings.
The standalone app, which debuted last week, frees Meta AI from its previous confinement within Facebook, Messenger, and WhatsApp. Now, users can chat directly with the AI assistant and generate images without navigating Meta’s other platforms; positioning Meta AI as a direct competitor to ChatGPT and others in the increasingly crowded AI assistant space.
Zuckerberg also hinted at incorporating “product recommendations or ads” into Meta AI conversations. Picture asking the AI assistant for dinner ideas and getting a convenient link to order ingredients, complete with a Meta affiliate cut, of course.
This multi-pronged strategy makes one thing clear: Zuckerberg isn’t just betting on AI as the future of tech, but also as a key driver ofMeta’s revenue growth.
The real question is whether users will be willing to pay for premium AI features, or if they’ll accept the trade-off of seeing ads in exchange for free access. Either way, Zuckerberg seems confident that Meta AI will be a central part of the company’s future, and potentially your daily digital life.
