These Avatars are made for walking

When Mark Zuckerberg announced that Meta’s Horizon Worlds avatars are to get legs with a handful of other limbs in 2023, dubious eyes started questioning the video he displayed at the Connect keynote.

You could see a cartoonish digital version of Zuckerberg frolicking around. The CEO himself was astonished by his newfound legs that ‘everyone has been waiting for […]’. But guess what? VRChat has had full-body tracking for years.

Many techies rushed to call it a marketing fakery, claiming that the preview segment was not a demo, but in fact an aspirational animation created using motion capture instead of Meta’s alleged VR technologies. This ushered in more questions hovering around the entire Metaverse project and its aloof promises, with the public being understandably skeptical towards Meta’s not-so-forthright attitude and lack of disclaimers.

Sorry Meta for raining on your dippy leg parade!
