WhatsApp adds quizzes to channels
WhatsApp is rolling out a feature called “Channel Quiz,” a tool that allows admins create interactive quizzes complete with multiple-choice questions, optional images, and a single designated correct answer.
The feature is currently appearing in both iOS and Android beta versions, suggesting a broader rollout is imminent.
Here’s what makes quizzes different from polls: there’s always a right answer. Unlike polls, which gauge opinion or preference, quizzes are designed around knowledge and correctness. You pick an answer, and WhatsApp immediately tells you whether you got it right, complete with a celebratory confetti animation if you did.
It’s a small distinction with meaningful implications. Polls invite subjective responses; quizzes establish authority. For brands or influencers running channels, that shift from “what do you think?” to “do you know?” opens up different engagement strategies.
WhatsApp maintains its privacy-first reputation even in analytics. Channel admins can see who participated and which answers were selected, but if a participant isn’t in the admin’s contacts, personal details remain hidden. You might see a profile photo, but phone numbers and names stay private.
Polls helped, quizzes now add another layer. They transform passive consumption into active participation, even if that participation is just tapping an answer and feeling smug about getting it right. For channel admins struggling to maintain engagement, these tools act as small lifelines. A well-crafted quiz can boost metrics and makes followers feel involved rather than just marketed to.
WhatsApp isn’t reinventing engagement here. It’s packaging a tried-and-true format into its existing infrastructure. It gives creators a new engagement tool without overwhelming users or compromising privacy.
