X doubles basic API costs while offering new features

X has announced significant changes to its API pricing structure. Although the platform is adding value with increased limits and new features, it comes with the downside of doubled costs for the basic tier.

The basic API tier has jumped from $100 to $200 – a substantial increase that startups will certainly feel. In return, the platform promises to boost read limits from 10,000 to 15,000 and is introducing new endpoints, such as community search capabilities and repost tracking.

However, not all changes are being trumpeted as loudly. The free tier has seen a dramatic reduction in post limits and allowed requests. Additionally, the platform has significantly restricted top-up options, limited to just two top-ups per month – a far cry from the previous allowance.

For established developers and businesses deeply integrated with X’s API, the annual subscription options might offer welcome relief from monthly billing. However, for smaller businesses and startups just starting out, these changes could represent a significant barrier to entry.
