Instagram’s custom discovery feed is in the works

The entire internet breathed a collective sigh of relief when Instagram decided to scrape off its Following Activity tab back in 2019. Well, except for those who mourned the loss of stalking their crushes or monitoring their not-so-slick boyfriends.

However, it seems like Instagram is repackaging this shelved feature into an optional feed. With a little twist. Snoopers will still get to snoop, but thankfully we’ll be spared the heartbreak soap dramas. How so?

Based on the screenshot shared by app researcher Alessandro Paluzzi, the returning “discovery element” seems to be an opt-in collaborative feed that displays content both you and your friends have reacted to. Or posts from mutually followed accounts.

This comes as part of Instagram’s newly developed affinity for everything collaborative, ranging from Channels to Collaborative Collections.
