Might TikTok dethrone Google, the king of search?

The gist: TikTok is taking in-app shopping to thrilling new heights with its new visual search feature.

The details: Users can now snap or upload a photo of any item and find similar products inside TikTok Shop listings. This feature is still being tested in select markets outside the US, aiming to provide a seamless shopping experience akin to Google’s or Pinterest‘s image search prowess. 

Now, we can’t deny that in-app shopping hasn’t always been a smashing success for some social media platforms. But hey, TikTok is not one to back down from a challenge, insisting on bringing the fun back into shopping – one dance move and impulse buy at a time.

In summary, the search engine industry is in for an interesting shake-up. It’s crystal clear that TikTok won’t be resting on its laurels of social media dominance. 

With such a hungry competitor entering the fray, will Google manage to keep pace? Or will the king of search end up playing second fiddle to the new kid on the block?
