Twitter experiments with new options in a bid to increase engagement
Twitter introduces ‘ice breakers’ which will allow tweeters to ask a specific question to their audience to further encourage and stimulate conversations. Within this option, there will be a specified reply field, which has the potential to distract your timeline but can theoretically see more immediate responses due to the upfront visibility.
Additionally, an online status indicator, a green dot, is to appear on your profile picture (like Facebook Messenger and Instagram direct messages) to indicate whether a user is online or not. This will be able to be turned off or on. These options would likely increase the engagement as users are more inclined to send a tweet out knowing that they could get an immediate response.
