Twitter Super Follows swapped for Subscriptions

Twitter’s Super Follows just got renamed to Subscriptions

Before delving into the rebranding details, let’s talk about how Super Follows work – Introduced in 2021, Super Follows is a monetization program that helps creators generate more revenue by charging a monthly fee for exclusive content. The cost of subscription can range from $2.99 to $9.99 per month.

The program is invitation-based; however, there’s a waitlist for eligible US-based creators who are not selected by Twitter. Eligibility criteria include: being 18 years old or above, owning +10,000 followers and having shared at least 25 tweets in the past 30 days.

Only users residing in Canada, USA, Australia and New Zealand are currently allowed to purchase subscriptions. In return, they get their own badges and special Spaces access. Exclusive tweets can be viewed in iOS and Android, but not on desktop.

In terms of updates, the rebranded Subscriptions will allow content creators to share any long-form text or even hours-long videos. Twitter is also hoping to add newsletters and more bonus features down the line.

As for revenue splitting, Elon Musk has promised to let creators keep their Subscriptions-earned money for the next 12 months. Thereafter, they can make almost 97% of revenue if their lifetime earnings are less than $50,000.
