Facebook Messenger is creating a co-viewing feature
Watching videos together, not together? Facebook is now internally testing simultaneous viewing of videos. This would mean you and your friend(s) would be able to watch a video, while discussing it, at the same time on different devices. This feature could steer more users towards messenger and creating shared experiences that would have a more natural feel versus dropping links in each other’s inboxes.
The new feature will have a ‘tap to watch together now’ and ‘chat about the same videos at the same time’ with chat members receiving a notification that co-viewing is starting. There is no official release date, so far. It is interesting however, that Facebook might be able to suggest sponsored videos such as shopping deals, movie trailers and more. For now, we’ll just have to take in the possible new meaning of Netflix and chill.
