Facebook to develop Instagram for Kids
How can you attract more users if you are company with already more than one billion active users on your platform? For Instagram, not much—there are only so many adults who still do not have an account.
“Wait, you said adults, right?” is what some executive at Instagram probably thought earlier this month. One quick way to get more users is then, simply, to expand the franchise, which is what BuzzFeed is reporting they are working on with a new, still untitled product focused on users younger than 13 years old.
According to the report, the obvious priorities for the product are:
(a) accelerating integrity and privacy work to ensure the safest possible experience for teens, and
(b) building a version of Instagram that allows people under the age of 13 to safely use Instagram for the first time
