Instagram adds ‘suggested posts’ to your timeline

Staying home has definitely made us all do things we wouldn’t usually do. From picking up baking to watching everything on Netflix and even… seeing all the posts in our Instagram feed.

Yes, it is possible.

And where there’s a chance to give you more content, Instagram will take it. Just last week, the platform announced that they will suggest organic posts in your feed from accounts you don’t follow. The posts will appear after you’ve seen all new posts in your timeline, exactly where the “You’re All Caught Up” notice used to appear. And more content, of course, means more ad opportunities.

The rationale, according to Instagram’s director of product, is that they are capitalizing on people who want to spend more time on the app:

“We see people continuing to seek out more posts they’re interested in after catching up with their feeds, so we wanted to learn from that and make it easier to go a little deeper for those who choose to do so.”
