Instagram rolls out a new payment feature for commerce
Instagram is making it extremely difficult for businesses to leave the platform as it launches a new payment feature that could potentially make the platform a key player in commerce.
The new feature will allow brands to sell their products directly within the app where users can purchase them without having to leave Instagram for a separate website to enter payment information.
To start making purchases within the platform, users will need to register their debit or credit card to their profile and include a security pin as illustrated in the photo below.

The option is currently live for a limited set of partners offering native payments for booking appointments like hair dressers and restaurants. However, as it rolls out for everyone, it will clearly open up a sea of opportunities, with significant advantages for B2C businesses.
