Twitter adds even more misinformation warnings

Even though the US presidential election is technically over, social media platforms are still reacting to its effects in the public sphere’s discourse—namely, misinformation.

This time it’sTwitter that is showing a great deal of initiative to continue adding features to thwart the dissemination of misinformation that is potentially dangerous for the state of American democracy. The newest feature is a new popup warning that will let you know in big, bold lettering that the tweet you were about to like contains factually inaccurate information.

It seems that all of these popups and warnings and labels do create a sort of ‘friction’ between users and fake news, which is a great sign. Whether Twitter and the rest of the social media platforms will pay as much attention to the state of the conversations outside the US and Europe is, well, another question.
